Get Your Neurological Condition Treated by a Medical Professional at Home

Neurological conditions like migraines, dizziness, or vertigo can make driving unsafe. Pivotal Health’s clinicians can often provide relief right in the comfort of your home. If you are showing signs of a stroke, you should call 911 immediately. Stroke can manifest with loss of consciousness, weakness of limbs, slurring or loss of speech and memory disturbance.

There are different types of headaches identified by the location and type of pain you are experiencing. If you are experiencing a headache, it will be helpful to describe these characteristics accurately to your Pivotal Health clinician to enable us to diagnose the type of headache and prescribe the proper treatment quickly and accurately. Tension headaches are typically felt broadly across your head or neck. These are generally related to stress or muscle tightness. Tension headaches are very common. Sinus headaches affect you in the face area, often behind your eyes or around your nose. You may feel a throbbing sensation in your cheeks and teeth or pounding in your ears. Sinus headaches can sometimes be treated with a warm compress and a decongestant. Cluster headaches, also called Horton’s Syndrome, are the most painful type of headache. A cluster headache may wake you in the middle of the night with a shooting pain behind one eye. If you experience one, you should seek a professional opinion immediately. Migraine headaches can cause debilitating, throbbing pain that can leave you in bed for days. The most common symptoms include hypersensitivity to light, nausea, visual disturbances, and a throbbing or pulsing headache. Several factors can bring about a migraine. Migraines can be triggered by emotional stress, missing a meal, caffeine (too much or withdrawal), hormonal changes in women, and flashing or fluorescent lights.

How Pivotal Health Can Help

Pivotal Health clinicians can treat your headache at your home so you do not have to go to an emergency room, urgent care, or physician’s office. The Pivotal Health clinician will ask you questions about what may have triggered the headache, the location of the pain, and other questions to determine the type of headache and the best course of treatment. As needed, they will have the supplies and equipment needed to do intramuscular injections (“shots) of medications or even start an IV and give fluids and medications that way.

Dizziness is a very common symptom and common reason for patients coming to the ER, urgent care or clinic. In the medical world, dizziness generally is divided into two broad categories:  dizziness/lightheadedness and vertigo. Lightheadedness is the feeling that you’re about to faint. It’s often caused by a drop in blood pressure and blood flow to the head/brain. Vertigo is the feeling that the room around you is spinning, even though you’re not moving. Vertigo is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Our Pivotal Health clinicians can help manage your dizziness and can often determine whether it is a temporary issue or a symptom of a bigger underlying health issue. They can draw blood to test for anemia (low blood levels), electrolyte abnormalities like high/low sodium and potassium, and other issues. They can also start an IV and give fluids and medications to help you feel better.

You should certainly call 911 or visit an emergency room (have someone else drive you) without delay if your dizziness is accompanied by other concerning symptoms. If you experience symptoms like blurred vision, slurred speech, pain/numbness (especially in your arms), nausea, headache, chest pain or shortness of breath, these can be signs of a serious health issue that you should address immediately.
