Gastrointestinal Illness

Get Your Gastrointestinal Illness Treated by a Medical Professional at Home

Gastrointestinal (GI) diseases are linked to the digestive system, including the throat, stomach, and intestines. According to the NIH, 60 to 70 million people are affected by digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) diseases each year with symptoms that can include nausea or vomiting, heart burn, diarrhea, constipation, dehydration, or abdominal pain.

GI diseases and illnesses could be acute, short-term illnesses that are often caused by viral gastroenteritis (“stomach bug” or “stomach flu”) or food poisoning. Both can be extremely unpleasant for the patient with vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and cramping. Viral gastroenteritis affects your intestines and can be contracted by coming in contact with someone who is infected or by ingesting something that’s been contaminated with a virus, like norovirus.

Chronic or longer-term GI diseases such as ulcerative colitis or irritable bowel syndrome may require long-term, specialty treatment and are often treated by a gastroenterologist.

How Pivotal Health Can Help

Driving to an emergency room or an urgent care clinic is difficult if you are experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, and similar symptoms. Pivotal Health can send an experienced clinician to your home to provide outstanding care. The clinician will take a detailed history and perform a physical exam to determine the cause. The clinician will then recommend a course of treatment, prescribe the appropriate medications, and/or make a referral to a specialist for ongoing care. Our clinicians can also give you fluids intravenously (IV) in your home if you have become dehydrated.
